These major ports are equally distributed along the country’s eastern and western coasts.

In the last decade, India has seen an astounding 70% increase in cargo handling, with the figures in 605.89 million tonnes in 2015 going to 853.57 in 2024. The trend shows a continuous increase every year except for 2020 due to the COVID-19 impact.

The table below lists the top 12 India’s busiest seaports ranked by cargo tonnage in 2025. The top five ports have handled 63.81% of total cargo. The highest cargo is processed by Paradip port (17.84%), and the minimum was handled by Mormugao port (2.19%)
