The top three reasons of death in India from 2016 to 2020 are cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases, and strokes. All these causes show increasing trends. 1. Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs)

In India, Ischemic or cardiovascular disease like heart attacks has been the major reasons of death in India. As individuals age, they often develop heart-related diseases. They experience blocked heart arteries or a reduced capacity for blood pumping. In recent times, lifestyle changes have significantly contributed to this disease. India is going through a massive transformation and it’s rural population is migrating to urban centers. Urban lifestyles are more sedentary. This is resulting in more cases of diabetes and hypertension. 

Deaths per Lakh Trend: The deaths per lakh ratio has shown around 9% increase from 2016 to 2020. In 2016, it was at 105.98 deaths per lakh which has rise to 115.18 deaths per lakh

2. Chronic Respiratory Diseases (CRDs)

The pulmonary or chronic respiratory disease has been at the second position. The increased air pollution especially in urban centers has been a point of concern. 

Deaths per Lakh Trend: The deaths per lakh ratio has shown around 8% increase from 2016 to 2020. In 2016, it was at 68.74 deaths per lakh which has rise to 74.19 deaths per lakh

3. Stroke

Strokes have also shown an upward trend and have been the third largest factor for deaths. Various studies related to stress and a continuous hectic lifestyle have identified the causes of this disease. These causes are apart from the biological cause.
