World Vehicle Production – 2024
The above graphics illustrates the auto production by country in 2024. It also shows the top countries with largest production in the continents. This is based on the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturer (OICA).
These figures include the passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, mini buses, trucks, buses and coaches. The world motor vehicle production data is bifurcated into two categories : Cars and Commercial vehicles.
World : Top 10 Countries – Automobile Production By Country
- China: World vehicle production in 2024 is led by China. The country produced more than 30 million cars and commercial vehicles . China’s alone production value was greater than the next top 4 countries (USA, Japan, India, and Mexico) together. China is also the largest car producer in the world. Despite the global uncertainties, it has been successful in sustaining a growth rate of 4% this year.
- United States of America: The United States holds the second position on the table. It has produced more than 10 million vehicles. USA has registered a minor decline of 1% in production when compared to 2023.
- Japan: After that comes the home of leading Asian car manufacturer company Toyota’s homeland country – Japan. The country has seen a lot of economic turmoil. It has registered a massive 9% decline in automobile production this year.
- India: India is a country that has been consistent in the last few years with automobile production. It has increased its count in last few years barring the COVID time. This year it has registered the growth of around 3%.
- Mexico: Mexico with around 4.2 million in automobile production has displayed South Africa this year. The country has shown decent 5% growth this year.
- South Korea: South Korea is home to famous auto companies like Hyundai motors and Kia motors. Traditionally, the country has been a global leader in automobile manufacturing. Yet, it experienced a 3% decline in 2024. As a result, it’s now moved to sixth ranking in comparison to fifth in 2023.
- Germany: Germany tops the Europe in automobile manufacturing. The country has registered a minor dip of 1 % and produced around 4 million cars. The data for commercial vehicles is not available.
- Brazil: Brazil tops South America continent in vehicle production. The country has managed to increase it’s product by massive 10% in 2024. This is the largest increase registered by any country in our list of top 10 countries.
- Spain: Spain is second topmost country from Europe. It has produced around 2.37 million vehicles in 2024.
- Thailand: Thailand stands at tenth position in our list. Country has seen major disruptions in 2024 and have seen around 20% decrease from 2023. This is the largest decrease registered by any country in our list of top 10 countries.
and South America in 2023 were United States (~10.6 Million), Mexico (~4 Million) and Brazil (~2.3 Million) vehicles.
Due to insufficient data for Oceania and Africa, a full tally off all continents can not be made.
Conclusion – Wrap Up
Year 2024 is not to be considered a memorable year for automobile manufacturing. As per OICA, the overall World vehicle production in 2024 has dipped by 1% in comparison to 2023.
Motor vehicle production is expected to improve in coming years with diverse supply chains and upcoming innovations. Electric vehicles are making a new space for themselves in automobile market.
