One careful look at the above table provides that all the twenty countries with lowest expectancy are from Africa. This is due to a combination of many reasons. These include prevailing poverty, inadequate health care services, and unhygienic living conditions. Such conditions lead to deaths from infectious diseases, especially in children.

Nigeria is the country with lowest life expectancy in the world with around 54.6 years in 2024. Followed by Chad (55.2), Central African Republic (57.7), South Sudan (57.7_ and Lesotho (57.8).

The most important reason for this low life expectancy is extreme poverty and inadequate health care infrastructure. We hope that over time development will occur in these nations. They will then reach the level of the world average life expectancy.
